I haven’t had a lot of time to draw art for myself lately but I was able to draw one of the linguist from my novel wearing cat paw mittens. Mirah’s former incarnation wore gloves kind of like Felicia from Darkstalkers but it didn’t work well with the story now but for my friends and fans who liked the paws, she can still have mittens in the winter.

I’m nearing the end of the book so my mind is going to the second novel. There is a lot of sketches I can’t even share due to massive spoilers! Well, some day.

Sorry blogs have been scarce from me but December ended up being a month of insanity. On top of drawing for about 8 hours a day then writing for 5 and add social events, family stuff, house cleaning, walking the dog, and all of that good stuff, I found I had no time for anything else.

Anything other than staring at videos of a cute “talking” porcupine.

Yule Tree

I decided to put my tree up a bit early this year. Actually, any time is early for me as I really haven’t had a tree in quite some time. In the past I’ve had a small tree and just decorated it with Pokemon toys but last January I got a 4′ pre-lit tree on clearance for $7 so I decided to go for a blue, silver, and gold theme (just realized there is a pokemon reference there, but alas, no ‘mons this year).

Not pictured are the My Little Pony (Friendship is Magic) toys under the tree and the Monster High Dolls next to it. Yeah, I like toys. LOL! The tree is in the living room in between my work space and Scotty’s so it’s nice to have lit up at night while I’m working on art or writing.

Today I’ll be helping my friend Yasmine decorate her house. I’m sure it’ll be really impressive as she’ll have THREE yule trees this year. She usually makes a blog post about it so go check out her site!

Anyway, have a happy Black Friday. Ha ha! I won’t be out shopping, that’s for sure.

While I generally listen to a lot of downtempo, melancholic music I sometimes like happy songs to lighten my mood. The opening to the anime Nichijou is one of my favorites.

Also, Happy Together by The Turtles. I used to not like this song much when I was younger since it was always overplayed on cheesy commercials or shows on TV but I grew to like it. Now I’ll listen to it on endless loop for a while to lighten up.

New Website and Blog

There has been a lot of changes in my life since September and I just recently decided to consolidate all of my websites to reflect the new direction I’m going in. I’ll be updating my blog regularly but new artwork may be sparse.

Right now I’m working on finishing up my novel which is a sci-fi with strong romantic elements. I’ll be talking about it here and there but I’m trying to just finish it up at the moment.

As for the new pseudonym I’ve been going by since September, just all about the branding and the new direction I’m going in. Sometimes it’s best to leave the past behind you and become the person you wanted to be.

I’ll start off with something simple here today. Tea! I almost always drink tea while I am writing or drawing so it’s just now a part of the ritual.

The main character in my novel is Jasmine Rose Briere. Such a pretty name for a tough gal that doesn’t put up with people’s shit, but she still knows how to be feminine and enjoys it. Her favorite drink is chai tea with milk but her mother named her after a type of tea she had once.

This is a tea I mix myself with loose leaf tea. My favorite type of jasmine is “Jasmine Jazz” by The Republic of Tea but I also have other less expensive brands of loose leaf jasmine green that I pick up at Uwajimiya or other asian food markets. As for the roses I get them at a place called Vital T-leaf down at Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle but this can also be found at some asian markets as well.

For one cup of jasmine rose I use one teaspoon of jasmine and about five red rose buds (or about a teaspoon of petals). If you use jasmine buds I’d use about two teaspoons of buds since they are so light. Only let the tea steap in the warm water for about a minute. I usually use a teaspoon of honey or raw sugar to sweeten it but that is all up to you.

This was my tea tonight. I went for the jasmine buds instead of the green tea. It’s lighter and does taste different if you are use to regular flavored teas. Fans of Laz, I’m sure you can spot his favorite drink on my desk as well.
